H.E. Amb. Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani
Chairman, DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Foundation;
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Roving Ambassador for the GCC
I have reached an understanding that life is a journey that compels us to find a purpose greater than we first imagined. Through this journey, I find nothing to be more rewarding than seeking to help our fellow mankind overcome the difficulties they encounter due to crises, disasters, and natural calamities. This is why I felt it a duty to form the DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Foundation, with the sole motivation to unite people across the globe for the greater good. To those who have been given the ability, it is an obligation to improve the welfare of humankind, with no bias towards race, religion, or political affiliation.
According to the United Nations, over one billion people are living in countries with protracted crises, and 274 million of those people will require emergency aid in the year 2022 alone, a 17% increase from the year before. With the resources available to us all today, it is our responsibility to take charge of this matter, which is why we find it imperative to partner and cooperate with multiple private and public organizations from around the world to tackle these issues. It cannot be done alone.
DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Foundation embarks on a mission to commit everything within its power in bringing together the most influential entities and decision-makers in the humanitarian aid field, creating an undeniable impact and imperative change. We aim to collaborate and build long-term humanitarian partnerships towards global sustainable initiatives. We also pledge to not only aid and assist in human welfare, but also educate and empower the minds of these communities to ensure a transformation from dependency to interdependency. We firmly believe that investing in the people and their education is immensely valuable, and a key factor in sustaining positive growth in societies and their infrastructure.
While we embark on this mission, we invite you to join us in our efforts for the betterment of mankind. We encourage you to be a positive change in the world, for there is no greater fulfillment to the heart and soul than caring for the needs of others.
H.E. Amb. Gerhard Putman-Cramer
CEO, DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Foundation;
Ambassador, Permanent Observer of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean to the United Nations & other International Organizations in Geneva
I am much honored to have been appointed CEO of this new Foundation by its Chairman, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani. The creation of the DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Foundation is indeed timely: the knowledge, experience, initiatives and networks accumulated over the last 17 years of DIHAD events lead us to believe, realistically so, that we can undertake more than just an annual Conference and Exhibition. In actual fact, we have already expanded somewhat over the years: an annual pre-Conference Workshop, quality educational Webinars and actual field-based assistance initiatives undertaken in support of Aid organizations represented on our Board.
While DIHAD is now recognized worldwide for the unique event that it increasingly is, its significance in the region and indeed in the UAE is further amplified. The DIHAD events have brought countless Aid organizations and professionals to Dubai over these many years, thus enabling the ample sharing of expertise and best practices and contributing to the UAE becoming the major actor that it is today in the fields of multilateral humanitarian assistance and development.
And now, with the Sustainable Development Goals as our adopted targets and the conviction that effective and coordinated humanitarian assistance can usefully contribute to our collectively achieving these, we will identify selected activities in regard to which our newly-created Foundation can play a value-adding role. The Foundation’s Board, most of whom are seasoned responders, will elaborate a Programme of activities which will be outlined on this site and subsequently updated as implementation occurs.
As in all humanitarian and development endeavors, partnerships are key. We will therefore continue to work closely with those with whom we have collaborated successfully to date, while also open to additional avenues of cooperation as we embark on new activities.
I wish the Foundation and all those who will make it come to life, much success!
